  Conducted in a well-controlled environment making accurate and objective measurements possible
• Field Experiment


  Conducted in the normal, everyday setting of the participant/s

  IV is still manipulated but it is in a real life setting

  May be possible to control extraneous variables, though such control is much more difficult than in a laboratory experiment
• Natural Experiments 


  When a naturally occurring IV is investigated that isn't deliberately manipulated but exists anyway

  Participants are not randomly allocated and the natural event may only occur rarely
