Sound Waves

Cards (2)

  • What are sound waves?
    • caused by small variations in air pressure, carrying the energy
    • vibration at the source displaces the air in front, pushing it away then retreating
    • Leading to the formation of compressions and rarefactions
    • transmitting energy over large distances
  • Sound waves are measured through an oscilloscope, where it picks up the waves through a microphone, converts it into an electrical signal and then displays as a transverse wave
