General damages
These are damages that are not capable of being calculated before trial and the court therefore has to calculate them.
Special damages
Damages which are capable of being calculated at the time of the trial
Contemptuous damages
Awarded when the level of harm has been low as an action should've been taken
Nominal damages
Damages awarded when little or no harm has been caused and the court wishes to award a small amount . This is used for torts which are actionable per se
Aggravated damages
This is where aggravating factors cause the damages to increase
Exemplary damages
Sometimes called 'punitive damages'. These are damages whose purpose it to punish the defendant for committing the tort.
Prohibitory injunctions
These instruct the defendant to not behave in a certain way,.
Mandatory injunctions
These instruct the defendant to take an action to rectify the situation created by the tort.
