• Driving Forces


  Either push tectonics plates toward one another or pull them apart.
• Convection currents

  • Caused by differences in density
  • Warm less dense material rises
  • Cooler more dense material sinks
• The Heat Disperse creates a convection current due to the difference in temperature between the mantle and the layer above it.
• The Mantle Convection is also known as the Convection Current.
• Hot Mantle Plumes

  • Caused by Convection Currents
  • Extends from Mantle Core Boundary
  • Produces Volcanic hot spots
  • Spreads out literally under the lithosphere
  • Heated mantle material rises and spreads out moving the slabs with it.
• Slab Pull


  Takes place when subduct slab sinks into the hot Mantle because of difference in temperature. The rest of the plate which the slab is attached to is pulled as well.
