• Test For Lipids

  Add Sudan III. If present, a red-stained oil layer will float on the water surface.

  OR

  Ethanol can also be added and when the solution is shaken, it turns cloudy.
• Test For Sugars

  Add Benedict's solution and heat for about two minutes. It will turn any of green, yellow or red if this food substance is present.
• Test For Starch

  Add Iodine solution. It will turn blue-black if starch is present.
• Test For Protein

  Add Biuret solution. It will turn mauve or purple if present.
