Why Europen powers were able to colonise Africa so Quickly

• Europeans exploited rivalries between African leaders, persuadimg some to help them against others (divide & conquer)
• 1895: Serious drought + Locust plague = food shortage

  1890's: Cattle plague (killed 95% of cattle) = death and starvation.

  Africans were too weak to fight against Europeans
• Africans had outdated weapons compared to Europeans and couldn't compete militarily
• Late 1890's: Smallpox epidemics brought by Europeans (who had resistance) weakened Africans and resistance to colonization
