L2.9: Nervous Tissue

Cards (4)

  • Nervous tissue
    • Neurons
    • Neuroglia (glial cells)
    • To receive stimuli and relay impulses.
    • Brain is the control center of the body.
    • Protects neurons (neurons does not divide)
    • Receive and conduct electrochemical impulses to and from body parts
    • Irritability
    • Conductivity
    nervous tissue
    • Its two major functions are irritability and conductivity.
    • Its cytoplasm is drawn out into long processes (extensions up to 3ft.) This allows a neuron to conduct an impulse to distant body locations.
    neurons
    • Special group of supporting cells that look like dots.
    • Its functions are to insulate, support, and protect the delicate neurons in the structures of the nervous system—the brain, spinal cord, and nerves.
