    • communication is the process of giving and receiving information between a human source and human receiver using words, symbols or actions
    • communication is a two way process of connecting to both living and non living things

    • sender is responsible for dividing symbols into chunks that is decipherable/understandable to the receiver
    • message is the ideas/thoughts transmitted from sender to receiver and it is the result of interpretation of symbols
    • correct interpretation of symbol is greatly affected by culture and experience of the sender or receiver
    • schema is the culture and experience together also called "the field of experience"
    • more similarity of schema = bigger chance of correct interpretation
    • symbols are observable signals transmitted from sender to receiver
    • symbols don't have meaning they only stir up meanings in the receiver's minds
    • verbal symbol is a form of utterances from the mouth or form of spoken words
    • nonverbal symbol is from body movement
    • channel is the medium through which the message is sent and it is the air around the sender and receiver
    • noise is anything that reduces the quality of signal weakens the communication and distracts the audience
    • feedback is the message transmitted by the receiver in response to the message of sender, enables to make adjustments to the signals and codify
    • types of communication: intrapersonal, interpersonal and public
    • type of interpersonal communication: dyad and small group
    • intrapersonal communication refers to talking to yourself
      • involves deliberation where you talk about your plans and decisions
      • involves meditation
      • allows you to get to know yourself, heal emotionally and organize your thoughts
    • interpersonal communication is talking to 1 or limited number of people
    • dyad is a communication between 2 people +
      the possibility of clarification and feedback is maximized
    • small group is communication between 3 or more people +
