Phosphorus Cycle

• Most phosphorus on Earth is in the form of phosphate ions in sedimentary rocks which are formed in seas. Weathering and erosion of phosphate rich rocks makes soluble phosphate ions available for uptake by plant roots.
• Erosion - involves break down and movement by processes such as water and wind
• Weathering - break down due to exposure to environmental conditions e.g. hot and cold - it doesn't involve movement
• Guano - the accumulated excrement of seabirds, seals or cave-dwelling bats. As a manure, guano is a highly effective fertilizer due to its exceptionally high content of nitrogen, phosphate and potassium: nutrients
