  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
    Is an autoimmune disorder that causes destruction of myelin sheath of nerve fibers in the brain and spinal cord (CNS). It is characterized by remissions and exacerbations.
  • MS: Manifestations
    • Brain - paralysis
    • Eyes - optic neuritis (blindness; diplopia)
    • Spinal Cord - paresthesia
    • Charcot's Triad: Intention tremors, aphasia, nystagmus

    Uhthoff's Sign - It is characterized by a temporary worsening of MS symptoms when your body's temperature is raised by fever, exercise, or using a hot tub or sauna.

    • Muscle Relaxants. To relieve muscle spasm. Ex - Baclofen
    • Immunosuppressants. To reduce relapse of MS. Ex - Azathioprine; Cyclophosphamide
