Subdecks (1)

Cards (10)

  • Judicial review
The Supreme Court's interpretation of the constitution is the correct interpretation
Established by the 1803 Marbury v Madison Case that became precedent
  • Judicial review has arguably overpoliticised the Supreme Court with many contentious issues being settled. There is also no final solution as previous rulings can be overturned.
    Overturning of Roe v Wade
  • Gridlock
The constitution was designed to promote cooperation between different branches, however there is often competition and deadlock between the branches
  • Gridlock
The President proposes a Budget to Congress to approve which has led to gridlock in recent years, with a limited government shutdown at worst in 2018, which lasted 5 weeks, over Trump's wall funding
The use and threat of a presidential veto combined with Congress' refusal to pass legislation leads to important legislation not being passed
  • Elections
Organisation of elections is mostly in the hands of states as long as it complies with the criteria set by the Voting Rights Act 1965 and Help America Vote Act 2002
Some states have stricter voter ID laws due to fear of voter fraud which is rare. There is generally more restriction in Republican states such as KS and MS which can lead to arguments of voter suppression
