• civil juries determine liability and remedy for convicted party
• civil juries are not compulsory, party who requests one pays $600 p/day for 1st week, after 1st week $1200 p/day
• 6 jurors in a civil jury
• most civil cases are only heard by judges
• if civil juries cannot come to a complete verdict they may accept a majority vote
