VALUES EDUCATION: Freedom and Responsibility

• DETERMINISM IN HUMAN EXISTENCE - determination in the case of human existence is defined as the state of being determined by any external force from the will
• EXTREME EMOTION - life is unfree when it is controlled by feelings alone
• Freedom is finite: when something ends through any actions, one thing is necessarily begins
• Simone de Beauvoir - "I am the face of the other's misery."
• Jean-Paul Sartre - "Man is condemned to being free!"
• ON FREEDOM - with freedom, man is not only simply the master of his own act but also with himself
• ACTS OF MAN - actions shared by human and other animals
• HUMAN ACTS - the appropriate actions of human beings
• VOLUNTARY ACTIONS - acts originating from the individual performing the act
• INVOLUNTARY ACTIONS - acts done under:

  • force or coercion and;
  • ignorance when the doer failed to understand the effect and feels sorry on the result
• INTELLECTUAL CHOICES - deliberately selected
• PRACTICAL CHOICES - borne out of psychological and emotional considerations
