• 3 types of worship in churches

  1. Liturgical
  2. Non-liturgical
  3. Charismatic
• Liturgical - follows a set pattern of readings and prayers from a book

  e.g. Roman Catholic, Church of England, Orthodox church
• Types of liturgical service

  1. Eucharist service - bread and wine to remember the Last Supper
  2. Service of the word - just Bible readings and a sermon, no Eucharist
• Non liturgical - a bit more spontaneous, no fixed structure

  e.g. Baptists, Quakers, Methodists, Salvation Army
• Charismatic - (greek - 'gift'). People lead by gifts of Holy Spirit. Includes clapping, dancing, praying out loud, hands in air

  e.g. Pentecostal
• Christian views on worship

  • Done to show adoration, love, honour and respect to God
  • Worship is two-way. God communicates with believers
• Pros of liturgical worship

  • Feels very familiar
  • No one can say anything untrue
