• Homeostasis is maintaining an optimal internal environment
• Living organisms must control the conditions of their internal environment for their cells to function
• The human body must be kept at 37 degrees because that’s what enzymes work best at
• Blood sugar levels need to be controlled so cells have enough glucose for respiration
• Water levels must also be controlled so cells don’t gain or lose to much water
• Automatic control systems May involve nervous responses or chemical responses
