  • Lean Years- refer to a period of 1924-1929 where the Nazis receive very little support.
  • In May 1924, the Nazi had 32 seats in the Reichstag. By May 1928 this had declined to 12
  • 3 reasons why the Nazi experience Lean years:
    • Improving economic stability:
    It's improved because of the stability of the economy and unemployment begun to fall thereby the living standards improved, leading to support of Nazis declining because support of an extremist parties fell away.
  • Confidence in the government:
    • Stresemann improved Germany's international status by Republic Successes such as the Locarno Pact, League of Nations membership and Kellogg-Briand Pact.
    • Leading the support of Nazis to decline because the work of Stresemann who managed to improve Germany's international status.
  • The failure of the Munich Putsch:
    • After the Munich Putsch, Hitler was jailed then banned from speaking in public until the 1927
    • It prevents the party for campaigning effectively.
