• Most sensitive vaccines (VOM):

  • V - Varicella (chicken pox vaccine)
  • O- OPV
  • M - MMR
• The rest of the vaccines are placed at the “body” of the refrigerator +2 to +8 degrees C
• Vaccine Vial Monitor (VVM) small indicators that adhere to vaccine vials and change color as the vaccine is exposed to cumulative heat, indicated by a small square inside a circle
• Vaccine Vial Monitor:

  • YES, administer - Square is lighter than the circle; Stage I, II
  • NO, inform supervisor - Square is darker or same color with the circle, Stage III, IV
• Most sensitive to Heat: VOM are placed at the freezer -15 to -25 C
• Cold chain principle:

  Regional - 6 months

  District - 3 months

  Municipal - 1 month

  Transport boxes - 5 days
• FEFO Policy

  First expiry, first out.
• How many times can a vaccine be returned to ref?

  Twice
• How many times can a vaccine be returned to ref?

  1st exposure - mark X

  2nd exposure - mark XX

  3rd exposure - discard
