Importance of 1st structure for 3rd?

Cards (1)

  • Why is primary structure important for tertiary structure:
    • The order of amino acids in the primary sequence of the polypeptide
    • Determines the final 3D structure of the protein and so its function
    • A change in the sequence of amino acids
    • Changes the interactions between R-groups of amino acids
    • So hydrogen, ionic, disulfide bridges will form in different places
    • So its final 3D structure will be different
    • And so the protein's function will change
