• The descriptive approach proposes that all locations are defined by their physical geography and characteristics
• A Social Constructionist perspective proposes that a sense of place is a product of social processes at the time
• Phenomenological perspectives state that place is a product of individual experience - this is often regarded as the most plausible idea.
