qualitative test for fat

• 1 - label 1 piece of brown paper as fat. Label a second piece as water
• 2 - rub a small piece of butter into the brown paper labelled fat and leave to dry. Add a few drops of water to the second piece of brown paper and leave to dry
• results - the piece of brown paper labelled fat is translucent and the piece of brown paper labelled water is not translucent
• conclusion - brown paper turns translucent when it absorbs fat
