Learning theory - behaviourist approach

Cards (7)

  • Stimuli- something that provokes a specific function or reaction
  • The theory of learning, the idea that all behaviours are learnt through a process called conditioning
  • Behaviours learnt through interaction with the environment, the way we behave is just a response to environmental stimuli
  • classical conditioning- basic ideas we learn from our associations
  • Operant- basic ideas we learn from consequences
  • Thorndike(1898)- law of effect- effect rewarding= more likely to be repeated.
  • Extinction- the CS applied repeatedly without being paired with the US being presented. If learnt behaviour occurs less often and eventually stops all together CS returns to NS
