  • aim- Pavlov showed digs could be conditioned to salivate at the sound of a bell if that sound was repeatedly presented at the same time they were given food
  • Procedure:
    • metronome was used as a neutral stimulus
    • alone the metronome didn’t elicit a response from the dogs
    • the clicking metronome was introduced just before he gave food to the dogs and after a number of repeats, the metronome was presented by itself
    • the sound of the metronome itself now caused an increase in salivation
    • the dogs associated the sound of the metronome with the pleasure of being fed
