Light Dependent Reaction

Cards (7)

  • Where does the light-dependent reaction occur?
    In the thylakoid membrane.
  • What does the thylakoid membrane contain?
Pigments such as chlorophyll, enzymes, and proteins such as electron carriers.
  • What occurs during photoionisation?
Light energy is absorbed by pigments, electrons become excited and are lost, causing the pigments to be oxidised.
  • What happens once the electrons are lost from pigments after photoionisation?
They are taken up by an electron carrier molecule and are passed along an electron transfer chain.
  • What happens to the electron carrier when it takes up electrons?
    It is reduced.
  • What happens as electrons are passed along the transfer chain?
    Energy gets released.
  • What is the energy released from the electron transfer chain used for?
    ATP production.
