    • Confluence: the place where 2 rivers join
    • Watershed: an area of highland forming the edge of a river basin
    • River mouth: the point at which a river flows into the sea or lake

    • Tributary: a stream or a small river flowing into a main river
    • A channel: where the river flows
    • Hydraulic action: the force of the water hitting the river bed and the banks
    • Abrasion: broken up material carried in the water rubs against the riverbed wearing it away
    • Attrition: material in the River banks bangs again each other making the stoned more rounded and smaller
    • Solution: chemicals in the river water dissolves the rocks on the river bed and the banks
    • Traction: the biggest boulders that are rolled along the riverbed by the force of water (transportation)
    • Saltation: lighter material which water picks up when it has energy and drops it when it doesn't.Bounced along the riverbank
    • Deposition: dropping of a material by the river once it's run out of energy
    • Suspension: small particles (sediments) constantly being held in the water
    • Vertical erosion: River erodes downwards into the riverbed which makes the river channel deeper
    • Lateral erosion: the river erodes outwards (sideways) making the river channel wider
