the cold naturally controls pests that can’t survive the temperature.
frost can help breakdown organic material in the soil making it more productive in the following growing season
demand for certain product
increases e.g turks sales good for fomess.
High pressure in winter means (problems)
Cold overnight temperature/ freezing conditions which result in frost and icy roads resulting in people getting into accidents
isobars become close together so wind speed will increase making bridges dangerous for lorries.
Strong winds and heavy snowfall can potentially cause blizzards.
heating prices can increase as it is too cold and will become more expensive.
shop sales will decrease as people are less likely to go outside to shops in freezing temperatures.
High pressure in summer (problems)
Drought may lead to crops failing and not growing.
extra irrigation costs may mean farmers go into debt.
head stroke meaning it might get to bad you have to go to hospital and take up beds that people need.
there could be forest fire breakouts meaning people near by need to evacuate.
thunderstorms meaning it can lead to flash flooding.

icecream sales at the coast will increase boosting the local economy.
people can have bbqs and do fun outdoor activities that lift up peoples mood.
outdoor sports can take place improving young people’s mental health.
heating costs will be low as it is too hot outside meaning there will be lower bills.

5 air masses that effect the uk
Polar continental- from Northman Europe with cold and dry temperatures.
tropical continental- from the southern Europe and North Africa which have a warn and dry temperature.
artic maritime- from the artic ocean and very cold temperature. not always wet due to low humidity.
polar maritime- from the North Atlantic with cold and wet temperatures.
tropical maritime- from the Atlantic Ocean and has a warm and wet temperature.
Anticyclone
Isobars are spread car apart bringing gentle winds when spread apart.
wind blows clockwise in high pressure and along the isobars.
in summer the skies are clear with little cloud and temperatures are high.
in winter skies also clear with little cloud, temperature is cold and maybe some frost.
the warm front clouds are called nimbostratus clouds
Depressions
Isobars are close together the wind is heavy and has a rapid change in air pressure.
wind blows anticlockwise along the isobars by following an anticlockwise direction.
warn air is pushed up where it cools and precipitates with clouds and rain.
the warm sector behind the warm front brings warm temp but cloud front front brings cold temperatures.
the clouds in the cold front are called cumulonimbus clouds.
Four factors that effect weather
Latitude- Scottish highlands are colder because they are further from the equator. This is due to the sun rays being less concentrated.
Altitude/relief- as altitude increases, temp decreases so places like Ben Nevis are colder than the surrounding low lands it gets 1°C colder for every 100m in height.
Aspect- places facing south are warmer because they get more sun places facing north are cold due to northerly winds.
Distance from the sea- in summer, places close to the sea are cooler because the sea takes longer to heat up snd also retains the heat for longer.
