Specialisation

• How does an unspecialised cell become specialised:

  • A chemical stimulus
  • Causes differential gene expression
  • Some genes are switched on and some genes are switched off
  • For the genes that are switched on, mRNA is transcribed
  • mRNA is translated into a protein
  • This protein is specific
  • And causes cell modification
