  • Sea Level rise- Sea levels are rising and predicted to continue to rise due to melting ice caps, low lying costal areas such as bangladesh will be effected most severely with large scale displacement of people and loss of farmland and destruction of property, isalnds such as the Maldives will become inhabital, expensive flood protection schemes such as the Thames in London have been invested.
  • Extreme weather events- There will be more frequent hurricanes and tornados and storms are oredicted to get stronger, this will cause damage to buildings, people will be displaced as they move from hazardous areas, in some costa locations in the USA its almost impossible for locals to insure their homes
  • Diseases- more people will be at risk from diseases such as malaria and mosquitoes move to new temperate areas, there will be around 40 million people exposed to the risk of contracting malaria in Africa, there will be an increase in diseases after floods and developing countries at high risk due to poor sanitation systems.
  • drought and flooding- some areas will become drier; droughts become more common in some areas, such as Ethiopia while others become wetter, in drier areas crop yeilds will reduce further , mass migation will occur resulting in more enviromental refugees
  • Changing ecosystems- coral reefs become bleached and die out, loss of penguins in antarctica due to warming conditions, some butterflys and foxes have been forced further north to higher altitudes and latitudes
  • EFFECTS- sea level rise , extreme weather events , diseases , drought & flooding , changing ecosystems
