  • "Tight-fisted hand at the grindstone" This means that Scrooge is stingy with money and he makes people work harder just to earn the tiniest bit of money.
  • "Hard and sharp as flint" This means that Scrooge is hard to break but when he does, a fire starts.
  • "A solitary child" This shows how lonely Scrooge was growing up
  • "The cold within him froze his old features" Scrooge's demeanour is so cold that his features are frozen in a sad expression.
  • "He said in pity for his former self 'Poor boy!' and cried again" This shows us that he does have emotions and is realising what he went through as a child.
  • "I have seen your nobler aspirations fall off one by one" Belle tells Scrooge about his ambition to be a gentleman but his greed for money let that down.
  • "It was shrouded in a deep black garment which concealed its head." The ghost of Christmas Yet to Come is a representation of the grim reaper which foreshadows Scrooge's death.
  • "A jolly giant, glorious to see" The ghost of christmas present is a representation of all the christmas spirit.
  • "This boy is ignorance. The girl is want. Beware of them both and all of their degree." This is a representation of the society at the time an how they're so against people who want to focus on themselves
  • "I dont mind going if a lunch is provided" The business men talk about Scrooge's funeral meaning that no one really cares about his death.
  • "A churchyard, overgrown by weeds" This shows that no one bothered to visit or care for his grave
  • "I will honour christmas in my heart" Scrooge has finally realised the impact his coldness and his actions has had on others.
  • Context- Set in London, Vitorian times, wealth and poverty is divided, workhouses, child morality.
