    • Free will- the notion that humans have an active role and can make choices about how they behave
    • Hard determinism- forces outside of our control shape our behaviour and free will is an illusion
    • Soft determinism— behaviour is constrained by enviromental o biological forces but only to an extent, and there is an element of free will in behaviour
    • Biological determinism- human behaviour is innate and determined by biological influences such as genetics
    • Environmental determinism- human behaviour s caused by external forces such as previous experience and learning
    • psychic determinism- behaviour is caused by innate drives and unconscious conflicts
    • free will places moral responsibility on the individual
    • determinism aligns itself with a scientific approach in order to form general laws of behaviour
    • Determinism is consistent with the aims of a science as it formulates general laws and predict and control behaviours
