    A skewed distribution is one where frequency data is not spread evenly 
  • characteristics of negative skew
    • Data that is negatively skewed have a long tail that extends to the left.
    •  the median will be greater than the mean 
  • characteristics of positive skew
    • Data that is positively skewed has a long tail that extends to the right.
    •  the mean will be greater than the median
  • Positive skew = most people did slightly below 'average', but a few people did really really well and were WAY above average.
    Negative skew = most people did slightly above 'average', but a few people really bombed and were WAY below average.
