IV and DV

• The independent variable is the variable that is manipulated by the researcher to see how it affects the dependent variable
• All other extraneous variables should remain constant so the researcher can be confident that the cause of the effect on the DV was because is the IV and not another variable
• Operationalising variables is how you will measure or change the variables
