Tectonic Hazards

• Earthquake- A sudden shaking of the ground caused by the sudden release of energy
• Tsunami - A series of large waves generated when an earthquake or volcanic eruption occurs beneath the ocean floor.
• Volcanoes are formed at divergent plate boundaries, convergent plate boundaries and transform plate boundaries
• Earthquake- isolated earthquakes (away from plate margin) occur due to mining, oil extraction ect.
• The Richter scale is used to measure the magnitude of an earthquake
• Volcanoes- The eruption of a volcano is the release of gases and molten rock from the magma chamber.
• Volcanic eruption- most occur in pacific ring of fire but some occur where the crust is thin (Hawaiian islands)
