    • Health: The state of physical and mental well-being of an individual.
    • Disease: A condition that is caused by a pathogen and results in a loss of health.
    • Communicable disease: A disease that can be passed from one person to another. E.g. malaria, common cold, HIV.
    • Non-communicable disease: Disease that cannot be spread from person to person. E.g. cancer, heart disease, broken bone.
    • What is the role of the immune system?
      To detect and destroy pathogens.
    • Are pathogens responsible for communicable or non-communicable diseases?
      Communicable.
    • Does the immune system generally protect against communicable or non-communicable diseases?
      Communicable diseases.
    • Mental health: The state of a person's mind, including their emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing.
    • Mental illness: Generally disorders that affect mood, thinking and behaviour. E.g. depression, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders.
