What is marriage?

• The four marks of marriage are Mutual faithful love , lifelong commitment, being fruitful by means on procreation , exclusive commitment to one partner
• four purposes of being married are to procreate, being unitive, a response to Gods purpose call to holiness and a sign of everlasting love
• Procreate means to reproduce and have children
• Matthew 1:28 says to "be fruitful and multiply"
• to be unitive means that a man and women should come together in faithful and mutual love
• A response to Gods call to holiness means responding to Gods call to be holy through a covenant.
• a sign of Gods everlasting love is a sign of Gods love in the world
• Genesis 2:24 says' a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife and they become on flesh"
• ccc 1601 states " the matrimonial covenant is a partnership of the whole life"
• a divine covenant is between God and the two people getting married
• a legal covenant is an agreement with law
• Pope Francis made book about marriage called not just Good, but beautiful. This book is important because it teaches the key to a healthy marriage and that without marriage society and the economy can break down
• examples of non believers are atheists and LGBTQ+ society
• a civil partnership is a partnership living together as lovers but no legal document.
• reasons why people get a civil partnership instead of a marriage is because some people can't afford a wedding, its too overwhelming or outside influences do not approve
• premarital sex is having sex before marriage
• premarital sex is a sin because its against Gods will and its fornication \
• Secular Humanists is non religious people that believe in human flourishing through for instance more freedom
• liberal catholics are catholics that support the freedom of the individual to do what they want so long as it does not cause harm
• liberalism is the belief that everyone above the age of consent should be able to do what they want so long as It does not cause harm to others
• secularism is the idea that religion should not influence how people think
