FAQ

How do I use Gizmo?

Whenever you come across information you want to remember, just type it into Gizmo. Gizmo will turn the information into quizzes. Come back to Gizmo whenever you have a few minutes to complete your quizzes. By answering the quizzes the information gets reinforced so that you'll remember it over the long term.

Is it free?

Yes - you can create unlimited cards and decks, and do unlimited quizzing for free.

If you lose 15 lives while quizzing though then you have to wait for 10 minutes before you can quiz again - to avoid waiting you can pay a subscription fee but it is not required if you are happy waiting.

Is there a mobile app?

Yes! There are both iOS and Android Gizmo apps.

How do the green words work?

Gizmo selects the words that it will quiz you on and highlights them in green. For example, if your card looks like this "The capital of Peru is Lima" then you'll get questions like this "The capital of Peru is _".

To change the words Gizmo has selected just click on them on the Add or Decks page, or use the dropdown menu on the Quiz page.

What are the extra questions?

Gizmo uses machine learning to suggest extra questions. These help you remember more efficiently by testing your knowledge in different ways.

If you want to be quizzed on an extra question, just click the thumbs up. If you don't want to be quizzed on an extra question, just ignore it or press thumbs down, then it won't appear in any quizzes.

Can I organize my cards into folders in Gizmo?

Yes, you can with decks and subdecks!

To create a deck:

  1. Type your new deck name in the dropdown menu on the Add page and press enter; or

To create a subdeck:

Can I see how much of a deck I remember?

Yes! To see how much Gizmo thinks you remember of a deck just go to the deck and click Score. There you'll see the percentage of cards you've answered correct recently enough that it means we think you remember it. To get to 100% keep quizzing on the deck!

Is my content safe and secure?

Anything you add to Gizmo will be stored securely forever as long as you have a (free) account. If you ever want to download your cards for extra peace of mind, there is a button to do so on the Profile page.

Can I export my cards?

How do you decide which questions to ask each day?
