the phloem function is to transport sugars produced in photosynthesis to the rest of the plant
this is called translocation and it is transported to: growing shoots and roots to provide energy for new cells and to storage organs eg tubers converted to starch as an energy store for winter
it is adapted as it is a living tissue as translocation requires energy and also the cell sap moves from one phloem cell to the next through pores in the end walls
