Droughts and frequent heatwaves

• Higher temperatures lead to a higher rate of evaporation and more droughts in some areas where water is already scarce
• The rainfall figures in some areas are lower than normal
• Prolonger droughts in arid or semi-arid regions may lead to desertification
• Dry areas are more vulnerable to large fires- these destroy vegetation and release more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
