Deforestation

• Deforestation is the permanent destruction of natural, indigenous trees and bushes by felling or burning in order to clear an area for other purposes
• Possible actions to reduce the effects of deforestation:

  • Recycle paper
  • Support the use of recycled products
  • Create protected forest areas
  • Combat illegal logging
  • Plant trees to replace those cut down
  • Select trees for culling rather than clear cutting
• • Create awareness of the negative impact of deforestation
  • Promote sustainable, renewable energy sources
  • Encourage local communities to harvest forest produce
  • Conserve indigenous vegetation by implementing mosaic forestry where blocks on indigenous plants are introduced into logging areas
