The truce, September 1192

• Richard needed to return home and Saladin was ill and eager to reach settlement
• In September 1192, the two leaders reached an agreement
• They agreed a three-year truce in fighting, Christian control of the coastline from Tyre to Jaffa, Muslims would remain in control of Jerusalem and Christian pilgrims would be allowed access to Jerusalem
• On 9th October, Richard set sail for home without ever visiting Jerusalem
