  • Stopping Sight Distance - The clear distance ahead needed by a driver to stop the vehicle before meeting a stationary object on the road or any obstruction for which the driver may need to stop the vehicle It is the viewable distance required for a driver to see so that he or she can make a complete stop in the event of an unforeseen hazard.
  • Passing sight distance - is the minimum length of roadway that the driver of the passing vehicle must be able to see initially, to make a passing maneuver safely. The minimum sight distance that is required on a highway, generally a two-lane, two-directional one, that will allow a driver to pass another vehicle without colliding with a vehicle in the opposing lane.
  • Headlight Sight Distance - is defined as the distance, which is measured in the direction of the vehicle, between the driver's position
    and the farsighted object without disturbing the line of sight.
  • Intersection Sight Distance -to enter an intersection to see clearly in both directions before you enter the intersection. It is the minimum distance required for a driver to clearly see and safely maneuver through an intersection. It ensures that drivers have enough visibility to observe approaching traffic, pedestrians, or other obstacles from all directions
