Osmosis

Cards (7)

  • Osmosis is the movement of water from high water concentration to low water concentration across a semipermeable membrane.
  • A hypertonic extracellular solution is more solute with less water, water will leave the cell.
  • A hypotonic extracellular solution is less solute, more water, water will enter the cell.
  • An isotonic extracellular solution is the same amount of water and solute on both sides, no net movement of water.
  • If there’s a net increase in water its hypotonic
  • If there’s a net decrease in water its hypertonic
  • If there’s no net change in water its isotonic
