    The regulation of behaviour based on written down rules
  • What is the government and what does it do?
    • Responsible for establishing laws and punishments which control and regulate citizens
    • To protect law abiding citizens and maintain social order

    Uses formal social control through specific laws which citizens are expected to conform to
  • What are the courts and what do they do?
    They exercise social control by punishing deviant or illegal behaviour

    • Body of officers representing the authority of government
    • Responsible for maintaining public order and safety, enforcing the law and preventing, detecting and investigating animal activities
