The 1987 Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines Preamble:
We, sovereign Filipino people, imploring the aid of Almighty God, in order to build a just and humane society, establish a Government that shall embody our ideals and aspirations, promote the common good, conserve and develop our patrimony, and secure to ourselves and our posterity, the blessings of independence and democracy under the rule of law and a regime of truth, justice, freedom, love, equality, and peace do ordain and promulgate this Constitution.
Citizenship - Defined as the legal nationality of a person.
Citizen - Is a legal national of the country at the time of census
Citizenship - The position or status of being a citizen of a particular country.
Those whose fathers are citizens of the Philippines.
Those born before January 17, 1973, of Filipiino mothers, who elect Philippine citizenship reaching the age of majority.
Those who are naturalized in accordance with the law.
Article V of the 1973 Philippine Constitution
Section 1: It shall be the duty of the citizen to be loyal to the republic and honor the Philippine flag, to defend the state and contribute to its development and welfare, to uphold the constitution and obey the laws, and to cooperate with the duly constituted authorities in the attainment and preservation of a just and orderly society.
Article V of 1973 Constitution of the Philippines
Section 2: The rights of an individual impose upon him the correlative duty to exercise him responsibly, and with due regard for the rights of others.
Section 3: It shall be the duty of every citizen to engage in gainful work to assure himself and his family a life worthy of human dignity.
Section 4: It shall be the obligation of every citizen qualified.
