  • What is considered deviant is dependant on what three things?
    Time, situation and culture - known as the relativity of crime.
  • What did Becker argue in regard to social construction?
    Society creates a set of rules and anyone who acts outside of these rules is deviant. Furthermore, he argued that an act only becomes deviant when labelled as such.

    That police use pre - existing conceptions and stereotyping, influencing their response to deviant behaviour when they come across it. Becker argued that this led to some groups being labelled as deviant.
