7.7 Transport of water in the xylem

• In flowering plants, most water is transported in the xylem vessels. These are hollow, thick-walled tubes.
• Transpiration in the force that pulls water through the xylem vessels in the stem of a plant via evaporation of water from the leaves.
• The energy supplied for transpiration is from the sun, so the process is passive.
