  • longitudinal study - when researchers repeatedly examine the same individuals to detect any changes that may occur over a period of time. They are done because they are useful in understanding social change over time as they track the same subjects repeatedly

    • longitudinal studies are able to paint a rich and accurate picture of participants lives.
    • reduces recall bias or error
  • weaknesses:
    • time consuming
    • expensive
    • they require significant commitment and resources to be effective
