Aqueous Electrolysis

Cards (6)

  • What is another way of saying aqueous?
    Dissolved, In Solution
  • In Aqeuous solutions at the cathode, the least reactive element is formed. Either Hydrogen or a Metal.
  • In Aqeuous solutions at the CATHODE

    • If metal less reactive than hydrogen = metal formed.
    • If metal more reactive than hydrogen = hydrogen formed.
  • In Aqeuous solutions at the ANODE, either Oxygen or a halogen is formed.
  • In Aqeuous solutions at the ANODE

    • If Halide present, halogen is formed.
    • If Halide not present, OH- will be produced forming Oxygen.
  • In Aqueous Electrolysis, because aqueous means dissolved in water. Water is formed. Water is also ionised into OH- and H+ ions.
