    • Inability to cope with everyday living e.g. not being able to hold down a job or maintain basic standards of nutrition or hygiene
    • Rosenhan and Seligman proposed some signs:
    • No longer conforms to standard interpersonal rules e.g. eye contact
    • Severe personal distress
    • Behaviour becomes irrational or dangerous to themselves or others
