  • JC not mentioned by name in the Res Gestae and Augustus neglects to do a catalogue of his ancestor’s achievements as is customary
  • Augustus also gives more to the poor than his father did -> “I paid out from my father’s will three hundred sesterces and, in my own name, four hundred sesterces from war booty”
• Augustus as avenger for his father

  • He is seen as “avenging their deed” by waging war against Brutus and Cassius.
  • He emphasises this by building the Temple of Mars the Avenger
