    • E.g, MPs misusing tax money to fund lifestyles, exploiting the system and wasting public funds on staying in hotels

    • Promoted baby formula as better than breast milk designed to mislead people in deprived areas
    • Employed sales women to promote and give free samples but thousands of infants died due to lack of nutrients > water was contaminated and was used in the formula
  • Corporate crime - Coca-cola
    • Contaminated ground water in India and produced toxic sludge, killing local animals and farmers jobs
    • When coke was first invented it was falsely advertised as medicine, reality was it contained wine and cocaine
    • Was sold in schools to get children addicted early, faced health issues

    State crime could be considered a third type of white collar crime
    • Difficult to estimate / investigate = those who commit use status resulting from higher social class > cover up offending and escape arrest
    • No obvious victims = people often ignorant they're victims > both crimes are consequence of complex and invisible process involving manipulation of technical knowledge
    • Companies = reluctant to report these types of crime > it generates bad publicity > may reduce client confidence in them
